2010 Highlights #3

2010 for me has been a pretty awesome year so counting down from 5 to 1 here’s the top things I’ve done this year.

No. 3 Boston/PAX East

I’m not counting this as a double entry because essentially I was in Boston because of PAX East.  If you don’t know what PAX is you should really find out, it’s an amazing 3 day event dedicated to gaming, be it videogames, table top or card based PAX has you covered, it’s also a celebration of all things nerdy and it’s awesome.

I didn’t particularly go to PAX East for the games, although I did get to play a few great games, I went to hang out with some awesome people and I’m glad I got meet so many people I’ve spent so many hours talking to on the net.  Sure not everyone was as cool as they were online and there was a level of hero worship for certain online “personalities” that I just don’t get but the amount of awesome people I got to get drunk with far outweighed the few negatives and are memories I’ll keep with me forever.

For a first attempt PAX East was in my opinion a rousing success and if you can you should get down to Boston in March to take part in the festivities, failing that head to the Seattle next September for PAX Prime.

Boston itself is a beautiful city and one that I can see myself returning to in years to come and explore which is something I sadly didn’t do enough of this time around.

Anamanaguchi - Scott Pilgrim

“I feel like I’ve been cosplaying Scott Pilgrim for the past 21 years” Sums us all up really.

This is why I’m gutted that I didn’t see these guys at PAX East.  Now I’m excited for the game, how cool do that footage look!

My PAX East pass turned up in the mail today.  18 days till PAX, 16 days till I fly out. Now it just needs to hurry the fuck up.

Plans for Boston/PAX East

So PAX East is only 44 days away and only 42 days until I arrive in Boston to partake in the festivities and to say I’m a little excited is an understatement.  Plans are coming together for things to do during the event, I’m going to try my hardest to see the Will Wheaton keynote although I can see myself struggling to get into that.  I’ll be joining a few people to partake in the Freedom Trail, a walk that will take us on a foot tour of some of Bostons older landmarks followed by a trip to the Publick House, a pub which has an obscene amount of beer and ale that I’ll be trying.  I’ve just found out that we’ll also be trying to squeeze in a tour round the Samuel Adams brewery before PAX East officially opens at 2:00pm Friday afternoon.

I’ve got a full days sightseeing before all this, I want too see as much of Boston as I can in the limited time I’ve got, any suggestions for where to go, what to do, places to eat or drink?

That’s not the end of it though, once PAX has drawn to a close I’ll be jumping on a train and heading to New York City for another 5 days, I’ll worry about that part of the trip another time.
