Marvel gets another thing right.
One of my favorite film blogs First Showing just sent the following the tweet out:
Wow… It’s really happening. “Marvel Studios is in final negotiations for Joss Whedon to direct Marvel Studios’ The Avengers”.
If they pull this off and Whedon does sign on it’s another sign that they’re taking their in-house properties very seriously and this makes me very happy. They’ve already got a couple of top class directors dealing with the individual movies: Favreau taking good care of Iron Man (not to mention producing The Avengers) and Kenneth Branagh gearing up for an interesting take on Thor. Joe Johnston is the only choice I’m not sure about and he’s getting ready to give us Captain America, although the casting of Chris Evans as the Captain made me a little more confident that he’ll do a good job.
Joss Whedon could be the perfect director to tie these three together, we already know he can direct both the ensemble cast and the action scenes which will be abundant in the film but also he’ll be respectful of not only the continuity of the series but the rich history of The Avengers comics. In a perfect world they’ll let him have a look at the script as well, he’s a fantastic writer and I’m sure he could give Tony Stark and Nick Fury some fantastic one liners.
If this all does pan out lets hope that Nathan Fillion gets a little cameo!
